|A Family (and a Job) for Gwen!|
|Gwen was adopted from NLOL in late Spring 2014 by a family specifically to provide emotional support for their 10 year old boy who suffers from post-traumatic stress syndrome.
After her adoption she remained at NLOL for training. After successful completion of basic obedience, advanced training, life skills training and AKC CGC Certification, Gwen went home in late fall 2014 to Ethan and her new family.
When Ethan was asked what it means to have Gwen in his life, he wrote “Gwen helps me feel better when I feel mad or angry. She nudges me to say, ‘Calm down I’m here for you.’ I try my best to accept her requests to help me, but sometimes it just doesn’t work. I am grateful we got Gwen. She is an awesome friend and a great therapy dog. She does her job and sometimes makes us laugh doing it.”
Since her adoption, Gwen has helped her new family in a multitude of situations by offering comfort, calm energy, and a shoulder to lean on, which just goes to show how extraordinary shelter animals really are and the potential they hold to change someone’s world for the better.
