The Nuts for Mutts Festival will feature live music, celebrity appearances, great food, a Beer Garden presented by the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce, the Kid’s Fun Zone, pet adoption, a silent auction and over 40 vendors. Celebrities & judges will include Joel David Moore (Avatar), Mark Thompson (Fox 11 News), Tia Maria Torres (Animal Planet’s Pit Bulls and Parolees) Peter Mensah (Spartacus: Blood and Sand & Avatar) and more (subject to availability.)

Two new special competitions require advance registration via the Nuts for Mutts website, www.nutsformutts.org.

Are you the top canine fashion designer? Then by all means, sign up for Project Dogway! Nuts for Mutts attendees will applaud carefully coiffed canines strutting their stuff in custom creations whipped up by their gifted humans. Awards will be offered for top designers in categories such as Evening, Sport, Everyday Casual, Resort and Couture.

Does your pet have what it takes to be a Hollywood star? Sign up for Hollywood Pet Tricks and let industry professionals be the judge as you show off your pet’s special talent.

Two-legged dog takes top honors at 2008 mutt contest

 — The annual Nuts for Mutts dog show in Woodland Hills, Calif., isn’t quite on the same level as The Westminster Kennel Club.

Luckily for Oak Creek pet Kandu, Nuts for Mutts isn’t trying to be elite. On June 1, the two-legged Routt County mixed breed took home “Best in Show” at a contest that boasts categories such as “Mystery Mutt,” “Most Vocal” and “Fastest Eater.”
